Mark Gee grew up in Western Sydney, before heading out to Orange at the age of 15.
By the mid 90’s, Mark found himself on the Sunshine Coast, working under Col Williamson; it is here he built great background in all facets of horsemanship, from racing, breaking in and horse education, before heading to Beaudesert to focus on breaking and pre-training.
Mark joined the team of Brain Cornish and Johnno Johnson as a stable hand and trackwork rider.
From Beaudesert, Mark spent time with Rick Worthington, known for his association with Arrowfield. This was extremely valuable for Mark, as Rick was known for his innovation within the industry.
Mark then decided to venture out on his own and spent some time in Paddys River breaking in horses before settling on Goulburn as his base to begin his training career. Mark saw Goulburn as a great place to setup, with great facilities and excellent training surfaces, as well as logistically being close to all city tracks, while still having access to the vast amount of regional racing areas in Southern NSW
Mark’s first Horse, Miss TaTa, was purchased for $2000 and went on to win 7 races and return over $140,000. His first winner Ariana Soul won at Wagga.
From here, Mark began training horses to acquire many wins along with great prize money, including horses like Irenic, the winner of 8 races and $150,000 & Nagging, the winner of 6 races and $140000.
Mark specialises in the re-education of thoroughbreds with temperament issues & racing/barrier embargoes. Many of these horses with issues & embargoes have gone on to have great successful racing careers with Mark, including horses like Oh So Unfair, the winner of 5 races and $105000, Kooringal Star the winner of 4 races and $104000 and Treasure Boss the winner of 6 races and $101000.
Mark’s training strengths include his pre-training and breaking background, and his ability to ride his own work.
